VISUAL ARTS

  • Facebook

At Creaney Primary School, the Visual Arts Program nurtures each child’s creativity, builds on their individual strengths, and fosters their interests. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and refine their artistic skills through a variety of mediums and techniques. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, we follow John Hattie’s Visible Learning approach, ensuring that students are explicitly taught the skills they need to succeed and are provided with opportunities to transfer their understanding.

Each lesson is designed to deepen students' understanding of the Elements of Art as they engage in hands-on activities such as drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, marbling, and more. Students also have the opportunity to integrate Digital Technologies into their artwork, sharing their creations with families via Seesaw, which promotes reflection and enhances the learning process. The integration of technology also supports the development of STEM skills, creating connections between the arts and other areas of learning.

In the Visual Arts classroom, students are encouraged to be Self-Directed, Inquisitive, and Reflective – key Learner Dispositions of our school’s learning culture. They are invited to contribute their unique artistic ideas and perspectives while collaborating and discussing their work with peers. This approach fosters a positive, dynamic environment where students are empowered to innovate and push their creative boundaries.

We proudly display our students' artwork throughout the school and the wider community, engaging with local competitions and events such as those held by the City of Joondalup, where students have the opportunity to showcase their talents and be celebrated for their artistic achievements.
