To clarify the difference between late and absent, a student needs to attend a minimum of 2 hours and 5 minutes in an ‘AM’ or ‘PM’ session to be considered present. The midpoint of our school day is 11:45am, so if a student arrives to school after 9:40am (2 hours and 5 minutes deducted from the midpoint), their ‘AM’ attendance will be recorded as absent. Similarly in the afternoon, if a student leaves school before 1:50pm (2 hours and 5 minutes added to the midpoint), their ‘PM’ attendance will be recorded as absent.

Please complete the 'Students Taking In-Term Holiday Form' if you are going on a holiday for two or more days. A hard copy can be collected from the school office or if preferred can be completed electronically and emailed. Absences due to holidays will be recorded as an Unauthorised Vacation as per Department of Education policy. The Principal cannot approve holiday leave during term time.

Parents are requested not to use Seesaw or the SMS MessageU system to report holiday absences of this nature.

It is a legal requirement of the Department of Education to notify the school when a child is absent.  At Creaney Primary School we have a mobile phone messaging system to communicate student absences. You can do this on the morning of an absence by sending a message before 9:00am through the school’s SMS system, MessageU. Please SMS your child's absence details to 0437 156 748 stating child's name/date and reason for absence.

When an explanation has not already been provided our computer system will automatically send parents a message if a child is absent, that will read similar to this:

CPS records show Frank Smart is absent Monday 12/02/2022. Please reply SMS with student name/reason/date.

An SMS message will be sent to all numbers listed as Parent Guardian 1, prompting you to save the number in your contacts list as Creaney absences. This will ensure that you are able to access the number easily to notify us of a student absence.

 â€‹

Parents need to be aware that this system is an additional absence follow up service only. There will be times when parents may not receive a text message due to technical issues. In cases where you are concerned about your child’s attendance, please contact the school directly on 9408 2900.
